Clive Cussler is an American adventure novelist and successful marine archeologist. He has had more than 17 consecutive titles reach the New York Times fiction bestseller list. He began writing 1964 and his first two novels, The Mediterranean Caper and Iceberg were typical maritime thrillers; however, his third book titled Raise the Titanic! established his literary reputation. In 2005 Paramount pictures released the film adapted version of Sahara, starring Mathew McConaughey as Dirk Pitt, Penelope Cruz, and Steve Zahn.
Born in Illinois, Cussler was raised in California. He attended Pasadena City college and after two years enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. In 1955 He married Barbara Knight and they remained married until her death in 2003. Together they had three children named Teri, Dirk and Dana. Cussler is a member of the Explorer’s Club of New York, The Royal Geographic Society, and the American Society of Oceanographers.
