Vince Flynn is an American author best known for penning six bestselling political thriller novels.  He is also a story consultant of the hit television show 24.  His sixth novel Memorial Day, published in 2004, was placed under security review by the department of energy because of classified material that appeared in the novel.

After graduating from University of St. Thomas (Minnesota), Vince Flynn when on to work as an account and sales marketing specialist at Kraft Foods.  In 1990, he left Kraft and accepted an aviation candidate slot with the United States Marine Corps; however he was medically disqualified from the Marine Aviation Program.  He now resides in the Twin Cities with his family and is under a four book contract with Atria Books.

Anne Enright

Irish writer, Anne Enright is the 2007 recipient of the Man Booker Prize for her novel The Gathering. Prior to winning the award, Enright maintained a low profile in Ireland and in the United Kingdom.  Much of her writing focuses on the themes of family relationships, love and Ireland’s difficult past.

Enright received her English and Philosophy degree from Trinity College in Dublin.  Afterwards she worked as a television producer and director for six years.  Anne Enright currently resides in Bray, County Wicklow with her husband Martin Murphy and her two children.

Michael Chabon

Michael Chabon, an American writer is considered to be one of the most celebrated writers of his generation.  His first novel, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh catapulted him to literary stardom.  In 2001 Chabon won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. 

Chabon attended Carnegie Mellon University for one year before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his degree in 1984. He went on to earn his Masters degree in creative writing at the University of California, Irvine.  In 1993 he married fellow writer Ayelet Waldman and now they both reside in Berkley, California with their four children: Sophie, Ezekiel Napoleon Waldman (Zeke), Ida-Rose, and Abraham Wolf Waldman.

Carson McCullers

Carson McCullers, born in 1917 as Lula Carson Smith was an American writer.  Most of her writing deals with a broad range of personal and social issues spread out in many different geographical locations.  Several works have been adapted in films, these include: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter made in 1968 and starred Alan Arkin, and Reflections in Golden Eye which starred Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor. 

McCullers was originally accepted into Julliard to study piano, however she did not attend because she lost the funds that were set aside for tuition.  Instead, she attended classes at Columbia University and Washington Square College.  In 1937 she got married to a struggling writer named Reeves McCullers and she moved to North Carolina.

Guy Kawasaki is a Silicon Valley venture capitalist best known as one of the original Apple employees who successfully marketed the Macintosh in 1984.  He is noted for focusing on creating a group of devoted Apple brand users.  After leaving the Apple Fellows group, Kawasaki went on to create the company Fog City Software.

He is currently the CEO of a venture capital firm called Garage Technology Ventures.  His business focuses on developing high-technology startup firms in Silicon Valley, California.

Amy Tan

Amy Tan is a critically acclaimed American-born Chinese author.  Many of her novels explore themes about mother daughter relationships and cultural identification crisis.  Her most famous work, The Joy Luck Club was adapted into a commercially-successful film of the same title.  She has written a number of other works including: The Bonesetter’s Daughter and, most recently, Saving Fish From Drowning.

She is now a literary editor for the Los Angeles Times’ Sunday Magazine and is the creative consultant for Sagwa, the Emmy-nominated children’s television program.  She now lives in San Francisco with her husband.

 Philippa Gregory is the 2002 recipient of the Parker Romance Novel of the Year for The Other Boleyn Girl, which is now adapted into a film and will be released in February 2008.  In addition, a number of her history-themed novels such as The Queen’s Fool and The Virgin’s Lover have obtained bestseller status.

Originally born in Kenya, Philippa Gregory moved to England when she was two years old and eventually went on to attend the University of Sussex.  She worked at BBC radio for two years before earning her doctorate degree in 18th century literature at the University of Edinburgh.  Currently she resides in Northern England with her husband and two children.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a critically acclaimed novelist and the recipient of the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature.   His second novel, One Hundred Years in Solitude, is originally written in the Spanish language and is a bestselling novel.  In addition, a number of his novels have been adapted into films.  Most recently, Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral) has begun production on Garcia Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera.

Originally born in the town of Aracataca, Magdalena, Gabriel Garcia Marquez was left by his parents to be raised by his grandparents. He eventually went on the study journalism and law at the National University of Colombia.  In 1999, Garcia Marquez was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer and he now spends most of time in Mexico City.
